Rift Valley

Jubilantly we left Dinsho. We are heading for rest and relaxation. We travel back along the windy road and through the fog (under the cacophony of Ethiopian pop music). We reach DOdola again where we have to change bus. Herewe feast on Beef tibs (fried steak). Very much appreciated. It is here that we also say goodbye to our very reliable guides Aiano and Hussen. They have been very friendly and helpful to us since Garamba and will be missed.

We press on in a nice bus to Lake Awassa. The journey is uneventful but the temperature increases and we head to the lower Valley. Eventually we reach our lake side resort. The setting is stunning. A smooth lake set in a mountain valley with birds and wildlife teeming.

Here is malaria zone though so we are extra observant with mosquito nets, copius repellent and long sleeves all the time.

The pace of thr trip slows down. We were hoping to have a boat safari but doesnt seem to be on offer so instead we eat a lot of fish and rest in our rooms and watch the lovely lake.

We have now moved on to Addis Ababa again. We are staying in a slightly nicer hotel and have just feasted on Roast Chicken for the first time! Spirits are high but we are not sure we are looking forward to the 10 hour bus journey to Bahir Dar tomorrow!

Hopefully keep you informed there!

  2. Hi Guys and Gals,

You intrepid lot... I thought I was being adventurous by walking to Waitrose !!

It won't be long until you are home, and we've never known both the house and Will's room so tidy, but feel free to mess the place with abandon when you get home mate, just don't make it a habit !

Anyway it seems that you all survived the trek. Hope the tums are holding out to the "cuisine" and
that the sun may come for you a bit in your last few days.\

Looking forward to seeing you all at the airport

Niall (50% responsible for Will !) btw I'm not Fluffiefluf so don't get the wrong ideas !!

  3. Thanks again for the update, Bahir Dar by bus won't be so bad, wait until you have the joys of the 1724 Waterloo to Leatherhead train journey!!

With both the project and trek complete, there must be little else to do now but sit back, relax and shop for those nice mementos (particularly the very good Ethiopian coffee) to bring back for all your loved ones - oh as well as things for yourselves of course.

Enjoy the time to rest, but don't forget to keep taking the pictures (Bryony that means you too!)

    News from our end:-
Real Madrid have confirmed a world-record £85m bid has been made for Gareth Bale (Welsh football player).
Rihanna wins Topshop T-Shirt court case???
Ryanair bumps up luggage fees by 66% (If Egyptair follow suit, I would suggest keeping the mementos light in weight - coffee is good here!!)

    Take care

  4. Ah, there is nothing quite like the smell of DEET (repellent) inthe evening. Word to the wise don't get it in your eyes or mouth.

Glad you've all made it safely to R&R. Enjoy these days, you've earned it!
